The scenario for this trip is set in the Andes Mountains where incredible landscapes are combined with the local traditions alive in Northwest Argentina.

On this ride, you will traverse through diverse and striking landscapes, each one with a distinctive climate. In a just five-day horseback ride, you will go from valleys with forests and crystal clear water streams to deserts with colourful mountains. The City of Salta

We will meet you at Salta City´s airport and transfer you to your boutique hotel. As an introduction to the region, a guided walk around the city will be topped with a drink at one of the many cafes surrounding the city’s main square (9 de Julio Square). Afterwards, the guide will provide you with saddle-bags and recommendations for the trip at a group meeting. A welcome dinner in a typical restaurant will give you the chance to listen to locals playing the guitar.

Meeting our horses

Early in the morning, we will travel to La Viña (2hrs) where the meeting with the horses will take place. Equipment preparation and horses designment. Horseback riding into the mountainous forest of Lerma Valley along the course of Las Pircas River. Lunch at the river shores and at sunset, we will arrive at El Churqui, a mountain refuge to spend the night. We will be awaited with tea, homemade breads, goat and cow cheese produced by local people. At night, empanadas and an argentinian barbecue.
Riding time: 6 hours.


Climbing up to grasslands

As we ascend, the dense forest gradually gives way to grasslands. Once we reach approximately 3,000 metres above sea level (9,842 feet) and have the chance to spot some condors, we will find a passage that leads to the desertic Calchaquí Valley. Arrival at Amblayo, a small town located at 2,800 metres above sea level (9,186 feet). It´s name means “what is around the high place”. This town, with more than 150 inhabitants, is well known for its goat cheese, its architecture and its pre-incaic culture.
We will visit the town and its ancient Church. At dinner time, we will wait for a traditional lamb barbecue while playing guitar around the fire.
Riding time: 6 hours.


Riding in a desert

Horseback riding through Calchaqui Valley heading north along mountain paths. We´ll have lunch at Yalasguala, a region used to feed animals during the winter. We will see monumental cacti (cardones). Multicoloured mountains and different rock formations fill the path until our next stop, Finca Isonza, a working cattle finca.
Riding time: 6 hours.


Discovering the Calchaqui Valley

We will ride all day through the mountains and gorges of Finca Isonza. We will visit some cave
paintings which represent the shepherding of llamas and gumps. Overnight at Isonza.
Riding time: 5 hours.


A working cattle farm

Early in the morning, we will prepare our horses and start our ride to Cuesta del Chilo 3,000
metres above sea level (9,842 feet), where the view is awesome. Lunch at Finca Isonza. Afterwards,
we will hike to Cerro La Cruz. Transfer to your boutique hotel in Salta to spend the night after a farewell dinner in a typical restaurant. During the dinner, we will be able to share the different moments of our horseback riding trip.
Riding time: 3 hours. / Trekking time: 1½ hours.


Good bye Salta

Breakfast at the hotel. The morning is yours to enjoy the town at leisure and discover its corners.
